Internship ADE’s Impact Department

Eager to make a difference through Impact evaluations and data analysis?

We are looking for students to join our Impact Department early 2025 for a 5-6 month internship!

ADE is one of Europe’s leading consultancies. We are based in Louvain-la-Neuve, near Brussels, Belgium.

We support decision-makers in formulating, monitoring, implementing and evaluating public policies and strategies in various thematics related to development and the environment.

Our clients include the European Commission, UN agencies, the World Bank, the African Development Bank, country cooperation agencies, ministries in Southern countries, private foundations and NGOs.

In the Impact department, we focus on conducting rigorous impact evaluations using mixed-methods approaches, covering all stages from evaluation design and data collection to analysis, visualization, sensemaking, and the development of policy briefs.

Working on the edge of research and consultancy, we provide tailored, relevant and realistic designs to measure change and assess attribution/contribution.
Our methodologies range from experimental and quasi-experimental designs to qualitative approaches such as contribution analysis and qualitative comparative analysis.

  • Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs – End of project Evaluation of ESPER (Ensemble pour la Sécurité et la Paix à l’Est de la RDC) (2024)
  • Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Rigorous Impact Evaluation and Contribution Analysis of the 2SCALE program (2024)
  • FMO (Dutch Development Bank) – Evaluation of the Mobilizing Finance for Forests (MFF) Programme (2024)
  • Rikolto (NGO) – Design and Implementation of Rikolto’s Evaluation Framework connected to sustainable production, inclusive markets and food systems (2023-2027)
  • EIB – Impact of gender mainstreaming in water infrastructure project in Madagascar (2021- 2024)
  • Enabel – Conducting baseline evaluations of the Enabel portfolio in DRC (2023-2025)
  • World Bank – Evaluation of the BioCarbon Fund Initiative for Sustainable Forest Landscapes (2023-2024)

 

We are looking for a candidate with:

 

MAIN SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s university degree, preferably in Economics, Math for social sciences – student status is mandatory
  • Outstanding analytical skills
  • Solid skills in quantitative data analysis and econometrics
  • Knowledge of RCT design and other impact evaluation design
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams
  • Good command of the main computer software packages (Word, PPT, and Excel)
  • Knowledge of statistical software packages (e.g., R, Stata)
  • Excellent level of written and spoken English

 

WOULD BE AN ASSET

  • Knowledge of survey tools (e.g., Kobo toolbox, SurveyCTO, SurveyMonkey…), Dashboard tools (e.g., Power BI), satellite remote sensing tools (e.g., ArcGIS.), big data, visualization tools,…
  • Experience in impact evaluation or/and evaluation of public policies
  • Knowledge and understanding of development cooperation or humanitarian aid
  • Knowledge of other languages, notably French, Spanish, Arabic, etc.

 

What you will do:

 

  • Participating in impact evaluation projects related to development and environmental issues, more specifically:
  1. Reflection on the most appropriate impact evaluation design
  2. Preparation of data collection tools using ODK software (e.g., Kobo toolbox)
  3. Data collection (desk review, key informants interviews, survey deployment)
  4. Quantitative and qualitative analysis (using STATA, R, Python, MaxQDA)
  5. Participation in report/policy brief drafting, visualizations, and presentations to clients
  • Contributing to other ADE activities, including support to proposal writing, business development, project management, and knowledge dissemination.
