Internship opportunities at ADE

Eager to make an impact through evaluations and data analysis?

We are looking for full-time interns to join our various departments from February or April for a period of 5 to 6 months in Belgium.

ADE is one of Europe’s leading consultancies to improved public decision-making through independent policy evaluation and advice. We are based in Louvain-la-Neuve, near Brussels, Belgium. We support decision-makers in formulating, monitoring, implementing, and evaluating public policies and programmes. Our clients include the European Commission, UN agencies, the World Bank, the African Development Bank, country cooperation agencies, ministries in Southern countries, private foundations and NGOs.

 

As an intern passionate about evaluation, you could join one of our following teams depending on your interests and expertise:

 

  • Evaluation Department (1 open position): policy and strategy-level work across countries or sectors. Example: Evaluation of EU support to Education.
  • Impact Department (2 open positions): programme and project evaluations related to development and environmental issues. Example: impact of gender in water infrastructure project in Madagascar for the European Investment Bank.
  • Economic Governance Department (1 open position): technical assistance and studies supporting the evaluation of policies and programmes in public finance and development finance. Example: Support to the design and implementation of a budget support programme in Ivory Coast.
  • Humanitarian Action Unit (1 open position – FR): strategic evaluations of policies, programs and project in the humanitarian sector. Example: Corporate Emergency Evaluation of WFP’s Response to the Sudan Regional Crisis.
  • Agriculture, Rural and Environment Department (2 positions open): evaluation at national, and regional levels on topics such as climate change, biodiversity, rural and social aspects of agriculture. Example: Study on climate change adaptation in agriculture in the EU, focus on water management for DG AGRI.

 

Position Summary

 

As monitoring and evaluation intern at ADE, you will be asked to:

  • Reflect with the team on the most appropriate evaluation design.
  • Prepare data collection tools using ODK software (e.g., Kobo toolbox).
  • Collect data (desk review, key informants interviews, survey deployment).
  • Participate in quantitative and qualitative research and analysis (using MAXQDA, Excel, Stata, R, Python).
  • Participate in report/policy drafting, visualizations, and presentations to clients.
  • Contribute to other ADE activities, including support to proposal writing, business development, project management, and knowledge dissemination.

 

Candidate Profile

 

Eligibility criteria

Please note that this position is open only to candidates who meet all of the following requirements:

  • A valid student status.
  • Fluent English skills (C1 level),
  • Fluency in French is required for one of the 2 interns (C1 level),
  • Current enrollment in a university within the European Union.
  • EU passport, Belgian VISA or Belgian residence permit if you are applying for an internship starting in the coming 3 months.

Requirements

  • Currently studying for a Master’s degree, in analytical and/or logical fields (e.g. economics, engineering, sciences, philosophy, agronomy)
  • Outstanding quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
  • Strategic, high-level thinking skills
  • Strong writing skills
  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams
  • Good command of MS Excel
  • Very good level of written and spoken English and basic knowledge of French

Nice to haves

  • Knowledge of:
    • evaluation of public policies
    • development cooperation
    • the functioning of EU or UN institutions and policies
    • survey and statistical tools
    • Spanish, Arabic, or other languages
