Internship ADE’s Humanitarian Action Unit

Do you want to make an impact by evaluating humanitarian efforts?

We are looking for students to join our Humanitarian Action Unit early 2025 for a 5-6 month internship!

ADE is one of Europe’s leading consultancies in the development and humanitarian sectors. We are based in Louvain-la-Neuve, near Brussels, Belgium.

We support decision-makers in formulating, monitoring, implementing and evaluating public policies and strategies.

Our clients include the European Commission, UN agencies, the World Bank, the African Development Bank, country cooperation agencies, ministries in Southern countries, private foundations and NGOs.

In the Humanitarian Unit, we focus on strategic and policy evaluations in the Humanitarian Sector using mixed-methods and theory-based approaches.
Our service encompass evaluation design, data collection and analysis, sensemaking, and reporting.

We tailor the evaluation approach to meet specific requirements and maximize learning potential, with careful consideration given to creating participative processes that include the voices of a broad range of stakeholders.

  • World Food Programme – Evaluation of WFP’s Emergency Preparedness Policy (2024)
  • WFP – Corporate Emergency Evaluation of WFP’s response in Ukraine (2024)
  • WFP – Iraq Country Strategic Plan Evaluation (2024)
  • NORAD – Evaluation of the interaction between Norwegian humanitarian aid, development cooperation and peace efforts in Lebanon, DRC, and Ethiopia (2023)
  • WFP – Evaluation of WFP’s DRR/M and Climate Change Policies (2023)

 

We are looking for a candidate with:

 

MAIN SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s university degree, preferably in Economics, political sciences, development studies, etc. – student status is mandatory
  • Outstanding analytical skills
  • Solid research and writing skills
  • Knowledge about evaluation of public policies
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams
  • Good command of the main computer software packages (Word, PPT, and Excel)
  • Excellent level of written and spoken English

WOULD BE AN ASSET

  • Experience with qualitative analysis software (e.g., MAXQDA, Nvivo…), Dashboard tools (e.g., Power BI), visualization tools, Python programming
  • Experience in evaluation of public policies
  • Experience working in the Global South
  • Experience working at an international institute in the development or humanitarian sector
  • Knowledge and understanding of development cooperation or humanitarian aid
  • Knowledge of other languages, notably French, Spanish, Arabic

 

What you will do:

 

  • Participation in humanitarian evaluation projects conducted by ADE, more specifically:
  1. Reflection with the team on the most appropriate impact evaluation design
  2. Preparation of data collection tools
  3. Quantitative and qualitative research and analysis (using MAXQDA, Excel, Stata)
  4. Participating in report drafting, and visualization for presentations to clients
  • Contributing to other ADE activities, including support to proposal writing, business development, project management, and knowledge dissemination.
